Walk into an authorized dealer and ask for a steel Rolex Submariner, a Patek Philippe Nautilus or an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, and you'll often hear the same answer: there's a waitlist. Sometimes it runs for years. Sometimes it's only open to clients with a purchase history.
Buying pre-owned from an independent dealer is the other route. For many collectors it's the better one. Here's what changes when you buy from a dealer like Roam, and when the authorized dealer is still the right call.
I.You can buy the watch today
Pre-owned watches are in hand, not on allocation. If a piece is in our inventory, it's available to you. There's no purchase history to build, no waitlist, and no pressure to buy a watch you didn't want in order to be offered the one you did.
II.Discontinued references live on the secondary market
Once a brand retires a reference, the authorized dealer can no longer sell it. Many of the most wanted watches from Rolex, Omega, Tudor, Jaeger-LeCoultre, IWC, Zenith and Blancpain are only available pre-owned. If the watch you want is a past model, an independent dealer is where you'll find it.
III.Let the first owner take the depreciation
Many new watches are worth less than retail the moment they leave the boutique. Buying pre-owned means the first owner absorbs that drop, and you pay closer to what the watch is actually worth.
To be straight about it: the most in-demand steel sports models often trade above retail, because supply is short. We'll always tell you where a piece sits relative to the market so you can decide with the full picture.
IV.You know exactly what you’re getting
Every piece is checked on a timegrapher before it's sold, serviced through a trusted watchmaker when needed, and represented honestly, down to saying “year unknown” when the paperwork doesn't prove it.
Box and papers status and condition are stated plainly on every listing. If there's a mark on the bracelet, we'll tell you before you ask.
Honest representation and a real person behind every sale, from first question to delivery.
V.Protection that goes past the sale
Every Roam watch includes a one-year movement warranty, a 24-hour money-back guarantee, and access to our buyback program. Every shipment is photographed and filmed before it leaves our hands.
VI.A person, not a platform
Roam is a family-run dealer. When you call or text, you reach the people who inspected the watch. We're not a volume flipper or a faceless marketplace seller, and we'd rather lose a sale than oversell a watch.

When the authorized dealer is the right call
If you want a brand-new watch with the full manufacturer warranty, and you're happy to wait for it, the authorized dealer is a good choice. Manufacturer warranties typically run two to five years, and there's nothing quite like being the first owner.
If you'd rather have the watch now, want a reference that's no longer made, or want a clear account of a watch's condition from the people who checked it, that's where we come in.
